NOURISHING THE SENSE OF LIFE WITH JOY – KEIKUS RECIPE

Pumpkins are growing on the vine, promising nourishing soups and roasted seeds to enjoy for Michaelmas season.  Discovering pumpkins in the garden brings much joy and anticipation as they are opened to find the golden orange flesh inside. Once cooked or baked, it is an important ingredient for “Keikus,” a wonderful cookie with a cake like fullness which brings nourishment to children and parents alike.

DRAGON BREAD

Dragons are important symbols in both east and west. Dragons bring great challenges and fears to be conquered, especially around the Michaelmas season, 29th September. Dragon bread is a wonderful way to explore with children the different moods of Michaelmas or the Chinese New Year. In autumn, for Michaelmas, bake a dragon and then decorate it with colourful leaves, flowers and fruits of the harvest. In midwinter, for the Chinese New Year, use nuts and dried fruits to decorate this symbol of good fortune.
