The Older Child

The articles in this issue address the older children in a mixed age setting, particularly the development of the will. This requires a different approach, attitude and direction from the adults who work with them. The children ask for more from us – stories, riddles, challenges, questioning – they want to step forward into life, getting ready for the next stage, be the leaders, take responsibility and challenge their physical bodies. Transition groups, activities, skipping, preparation for school, ceremonies and stories for the next phase in their lives are all addressed in this issue.

The nature observation is the Bee, and there are bee crafts, ring times, games and songs. It includes a list of suitable stories for this age.
